Anthony Micallef is one of my favourite contemporary artists. His art is seen to be very brash and to some distasteful, but retains that edge and you can still brand his work 'pretty'. He has been heavily compared to Francis Bacon, which i can definitely see.
This is one of, if not my favourite piece of his. It combines a perfect mixture of dark,
thought provoking illustrative imagery that is centered around such a strong subject: Love.

MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION
I have always been interested in Anatomy. I love finding out how the body works and i'm fascinated with organs. I think it's wonderful how these illustrations show the intricate detail of what our body goes through and how these illustrations manage to represent a process we cannot see for ourselves. I think medical illustration is fantastic. It's creative. It's something as an artist you have to do justice, you're visualising a process after all.
PROJECT IDEAS.
This week i started writing my brief for my fmp. I've sort of used this project to focus on my strengths and things i have developed over the past two years in art, that i am now finally confident to work with. (i.e, graphics, illustration.)

M U S T R E M E M B E R.
I'm the most critical person when it comes to what i do, i have this massive fear
of getting things 'wrong' or them not turning out the way i want. I need to just...relax.

THE PRESTIGE
Ah, Christopher Nolan, you wizard! (kind of true aswell, if you've seen the film.) I have wanted to watch The Prestige since it came out four years ago and tonight i finally watched it.
It was brilliant. so wonderfully put together. No flaws. At all.
I won't go into massive detail, as i think it's a film that you have to watch very closely and the less you know about it at the start, the more you'll appreciate at the end.

The film stars Christian Bale and Hugh jackman at the turn of the 20th century, both trying to come up with wonderful tricks to shock and scare an audience.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD
Andreas Sheiger is an Austrian Graphic designer and Ilustrator that
just happens to be brilliant at designing Typography.
His newest batch of typefaces specialises in dissection in a surgery room, with each letter
being cut open and sewn up.
To make these individual letters Andreas used a mixture of:
chicken bones, wire, acrylics, hot glue all on a base of powder-coated mdf.

NICE MELODY
In the last two weeks we have been doing small workshops in class, mostly to try new things and have a break from working primarily on assignments. It's been nice to sort of have a breather from focusing on getting work done and just enjoy a bit of time trying something new.
Recently we did workshop on Sound and how you could visualise sound and movement. It was interesting as music and art go hand in hand, but illustrating a sense was a lot more harder than i had anticipated. We spent most of the afternoon drawing to classical music, it was really relaxing for me as i felt in some ways that i wasn't actually in control of anything! My hand was just sort of moving around the page and moving faster, or swirling around when there was a sudden change in the tone.

GET ME AWAY FROM HERE, I'M DYING.
I did however get my grade back for my last assignment and i did pretty well, so that was a bit of a mood lifter. It helped!
This was what i made for my final piece, my chosen area was illustraton/graphics. This was an illustration that i re-worked with lyrics in the background and i added flowers to the eyes. Brandon. . . Flowers...Yes? Yesyes!
Anyway. I liked it. I sort of got to a point at the end where i couldn't decide what to do, not because i didn't have any ideas flowing, i just thought whatever i drew wouldn't be as good as this. In terms of Graphics i think it's good. It's not brilliant but you know, i'm learning. A year ago, or even a few months ago, i wouldn't have been able to edit/design or create anything digitally that i would of been pleased enough with to hand in. I think this project was a really good starting point to show what i can do, it'll be a nice collection of work to come back and look at and see how much i've improved in terms of skill.
