AYAKA NISHI

I've had plenty of time recently to just mooch at stuff i don't need, but would kiiiiind of like.
Ayaka Nishi is a Japanese jewellery designer that i discovered a few months back, through my boyfriend.
Her jewellery doesn't come cheap, but it's pretty much worth it. It's very animalistic, inspired by natural forms and sources from bones and fossils, to coral and feathers.
Everything is so intricate, her jewellery looks so good on skin, it sounds weird, but her pieces just look beautiful.

DRESS ME UP

Brandon is always credited for his style. His all-american matinee-idol looks
and showman outfits (feathered epaulettes and sequinned suits)
have gained him style icon status. He's even managed to bag himself the 'Best Dressed' and 'Man of the year' Awards at NME and GQ.
So I decided to take a leaf out of online style and trend site Polyvore
and produce my own spread of Brandon inspired clothes and accessories for my last proj.
It was sort of a playful thing centered around "What would Brandon wear if he was a woman?".
His style is something most women would appreciate and try to emmulate more then men would anyway. There is definitely a certain glam and flamboyance to his outfits.
These are my Evening and Day collection. These spreads started out in my sketchbook and then me, being me left them to the last minute to scan & edit! Ahh, i'd re-do them now, but here they are: Night Owl and Desert Spirit

FLOWERS IS COMPLETE

Yesterday i handed in my last assignment before my fmp. I felt a bit weird actually.
I wasn't entirely satisfied with what i handed in, largely because i had so many ideas and things i didn't get to include because i made my sketchbook digitally. It was something I've always wanted to create so i spent majority of the time trying to make it work. I'm 87% happy with the outcome though.
YAY BRANDON.

GAVIN BOND

Contemporary photographer, Gavin Bond known mostly for snapping musicians and high-fashion, shot The Killers in 2009, in Q magazine. The photos were incredible.
So whilst deciding who to research for this assignment i decided to take a de-tour from the usual artist/designers and go down the photography/music route.
Bond graduated from prestigious St Martin's School of Art. He has been photographing bands for over a decade and has shot everyone from Gwen Stefani to AC/DC to Katy Perry.

The Independent said: "The British-born photographer manages to take candid photographs of the stars without losing any of their glamour. Often his subjects are portrayed in exaggerated version of themselves, or else he presents another side of their public persona."

When he shot Brandon and co', the shoot was a very dark and dismantled sequence. They were smashing things up, roughing up cars, roughing up people... it was different to their usual photographs of well-groomed men dressed like cowboys. Bond also shot the band early on in American music magazine Spin. These shots were very 'Seven deadly sins' The band were new to the scene so the shot was all about the glitz and glamour of the strip, how it's hard to steer away from the sleaze of the town and such.

His website has a lot of his tour photography and editorial work. Have a gander.. http://www.gavinbondphotography.com/#/client/template.xml?aaa=portfolio/443

WE HATE PAINT.

When i started my sketchbook i got off to a really great start and then PAINT happened.
It warped my page, ruined the paper and basically killed my sketchbook.
Soooo, i decided to take everything out and place it in a new book. So far I've focused mainly on illustration and type. I've basically been drawing Brandon Flowers at every opportunity i get. I've been pretty excited about this project because it doesn't really have any flaws, I'm quite comfortable putting it all together. The only thing I'm pondering over is what to do for my final piece, but I'm such I'll figure it out.
I've wanted to build up my drawing skills because it's something i do often and it is something i love. So I've been sketching and bashing out 5-minute drawings to get my creative head on.

I drew this a couple of weeks ago with my left hand. It's a good technique to try because you pay more attention to what you're doing when you draw with the hand you don't write with. You feel less comfortable holding the pen so the outcome of the drawing has more of an 'undone' feel to it. The quote is from Brandon that i always remember because it made me laugh.

" I just think it's the whipped cream... on top. The Killers are the pie and I guess (my) looks are the cherry."

This was a sketch i did from the above picture. I gave him hair initially, but i messed it up
which is why he is now bald. Greaaaat.
